Changing like the wind: the long time scale variability of NGC 5548
Abstract
We present the results of multiple observations of NGC 5548, taken with Chandra LETGS and XMM RGS spectrometers. This source is one of the best studied AGN with a strong outflow. The continuum variability is well known, thanks to extensive RXTE monitoring. By comparing changes in the emission and absorption components we can put constraints on their location. The long RXTE monitoring campaign and 7 separate spectral observations allow us to investigate correlations between emission features ( notably the OVII forbidden line and Fe Kα line) and the average continuum flux on a long time scale.
